St. Luke's Scool
Another busy, though short term for the school, within which was a special day when
we had an inspector in to see how we measured up to the standards expected of a
church school in Religious Education. Mrs Jenny Veazey, herself a Head Teacher from
Oxfordshire spent the day observing lessons, collective worship in both Junior and
Infant departments, and talking to our RE Co-ordinator, Stephanie Brown, Mrs Palin,
governors and parents. In the words of Mrs Palin our school was judged to be
Outstanding! with particular strengths in pastoral care for children
and families, relationships within the school, and the leadership, management and
vision of the Head Teacher.
In the last weeks of term the Junior site saw the erection of an Adventure play
trail, which has been placed between the playground and the grassed area. This is
a much needed and welcome addition to the recreational facilities for the children.
The school is also making a garden area and on Good Friday a working party of teachers,
parents and governors put railway sleepers in place to define the garden and make
raised beds for the children to cultivate. Together with a new platform with seating
around as an outdoor teaching area, these projects have made it an exciting time
for the children.
The last day of term saw the end of term service at St Luke’s when the children
all walked from school to church. It is lovely to see the older children hand in
hand with the infants as they meet together in the only place where the whole school
can be together now that we have grown to a two form entry with numbers over 400.
In the afternoon of the last day children from the Singing Club which Mrs Murray
runs in the lunch hour, gave a super concert ‘Songs from under the sea’, lots of
pirates singing with gusto, especially ‘What shall we do with a drunken sailor?’
It is a joy to see the diversity of experiences which our children have at school,
whilst never forgetting the hard work that goes into the delivery of the National
Curriculum.
